Pirmo mėnesio statistika | First month statistics

Šiandien suėjo lygiai mėnesis mano nuotykiams Florencijos universitete bei šiam nuostabiam Italijos mieste. Ta proga nusprendžiau keletą atsitiktinių skaičių sumesti į lengvos formos statistiką, kuri, jei pasiseks, atspindės mano įprastą (ar nelabai) kasdienybę, sunkumus ir malonumus, nuotykius ir nuobodžiavimus, na, naujo gyvenimo pradžią.

Today it's exactly a month since my adventure at the University of Florence, and at this wonderful Italian city has started. On this occasion I decided to get some random numbers together into a loose-form statistics which, if successful, will paint a rough picture of my common (or not so) everyday life, hardships and pleasures, adventures and boredom, well, the beginning of a new life.

Tad galiu drąsiai teigti, kad po...
So I can firmly state that after...

Maksimalus savaitgalis | The ultimate weekend

Pirmadienis, sėdžiu universitete bandydama nuveikti ką nors naudingo, o neišeina nieko, nes skauda viską - kojas, akis, galvą. Senatvė? Ne, greičiau jau tobulas jaunatviškas savaitgalis!

It's Monday, I'm sitting at my desk at the University hoping to get something useful done, but nothing's happening because my everything hurts - legs, eyes, head. Senescence? Nah, more like ultimately amazing weekend!

On Friday I left the University a bit earlier because I promised to my newly-made friend to help her move. There was a lot of luggage, the distance was enormous, we had to change buses, the first bus was late and when it arrived it was fuller than Birmingham's Primark on a Saturday morning, there were mosquitoes biting even on the bus, we got off at the wrong stop so we had to walk for longer, we got insanely hungry, but it wasn't raining, the walk wasn't uphill, we had super lovely chat, met another girl I knew on the way, and the flat was lovely, so completely knackered and starved but really happy with the work we did we left towards the old town for an aperitivo - a drink and all you can eat buffet for a very reasonable price. By the recommendation of my new friend we went to Soul Kitchen bar where indeed the food was gorgeous, music and interior created a charming environment, but all about this lovely place some other time. Another of my new friends has joined us, and then three of his, so the six of us were just sitting there and chatting until midnight. Sounds like typical Italy yet? Oh yes, but what happened next is even more so! Since none of us felt like going home yet and the drinks were not the cheapest there, we headed towards Santo Spirito square, where groups of people from young to old, tourists and locals were sitting on benches, stairs to the church or just kerbs, having a couple of drinks from a store round the corner and with their guitars or loudspeakers were simply chilling. So did we - listened to music and chatted about absolutely everything until 3am when the people who clean the square asked us out. Came home with the brightest smile and fell asleep like a log still thinking what a great place I have come to.

On Saturday morning I woke up with my alarm clock going off for like 58th time knowing what a great day is ahead. Having managed to wash my cloths before leaving (ugh, sucks to be a grown-up!) I ran off to register for the 12.8km run on Sunday morning. Barely made before the end of registration but having received my way-to-brightly-pink T-shirt I almost started jumping from excitement. Immediately after I met with my new Erasmus friends and we proceeded to be proper tourists. The 24h ticket we bought granted us one-time entry to each of the five pieces of the gorgeous complex. Firstly we visited the Baptistery of Saint John which, even though is most famous for the extraordinary bronze doors on the outside (now under restoration, good thing I'm not in a rush :)), the inside of the baptistery made my jaw drop.

Upon exit, as always, I was stunned by the beauty of the cathedral (that never ever fits in a single photo...)

The next object we have visited was the dome of the cathedral. 463 steps and way too much two-way traffic but the view from the top was more than worth it.

As we have finally reached the ground level and looked around the inside of the cathedral, we got out of the church to see a procession from a different era coming right at us with flags, fancy cloths and little drums, and people buying wine off cow-pulled wagons... We honestly thought we have accidentally turned back time as we were descending from the dome. From bits and pieces of what people were talking about we thought this event must be to mark the last-year's wine being now ready to drink and getting it sanctified by the bishop. Or at least we guess so because when I asked my Florentine colleague at the university on Monday what tradition this was he told me this is the first time he is hearing about anything of such sorts... Oh well, at least we had fun and the pictures look cute!

After this many experienced we still tried to enter the Duomo museum but it was closed, so we just made our way to a coffee shop to finally have a seat. We tried ITIT sandwich bar, which has this cosy atmosphere with its old-fashioned interior merged with modern solutions for daylight, people sitting on couches working on their laptops or just having chats, so I do believe I'll be spending some of my Sundays on my laptop there because I still don't have internet at home and on Sundays barely anything is working here. The food wasn't cheap there and we all are students, so we went for a dinner and the best dinner is an aperitivo! Soul Kitchen again, we had way too much food and have filled a full page with absolutely amazing activities which we will do before my new friends have to go back to their universities. The first activity was planned as soon as the next evening - a dinner at one of the girls' place and watching lanterns being let at a square next to her house. Couldn't wait!

Mano pirmojo bėgimo rytas prasidėjo ne itin čempioniškai - kava ir bandelė, ir jau skaudančios kojos nuo tiek daug laiptų praėjusią dieną, bet išėjus laukan pasijaučiau, tikriausiai, kaip Dorotė Smaragdo mieste - pusė miesto populiacijos judėjo link katedros aikštės ryškiai ryškutėliausiais rožiniais marškinėliais. Vaikučiai vežimėliuose, seneliai, net šuniukai buvo aprengti maikutėmis!

The morning of my first run didn't start in an extremely champion-y fashion - coffee and a pastry, and already hurting legs from a few too many stairs the day before. But the minute I left the house I felt like Dorothy must have felt in the Emerald city - half the city population was moving towards the cathedral square in dazzling bright pink T-shirts. Kids in strollers, elders, even dogs were dressed in them!

The run itself was good fun. Three of my newly met people were running too, so I organised for all of us to meet before the run, so the waiting was pleasant, and the run didn't seem too long. The stream of people was incredibly huge, and the streets very narrow, some even with cars parked on them, so there were quite a few forced breaks of walking or even standing. Maybe not fair but it worked out fine for me because I didn't think to practice before and there were many uphill sections of the run. In any case I was very proud f myself, was mesmerised by the beautiful panoramic views, chatted with the loveliest people, and we even got a taster of the best coffee in town and a free entry to any of the nine sponsor museums. Out of which we didn't end up going to any because shower and food was more appealing...

Popietę tarptautinių studentų asociacija organizavo nemokamą turą po Fort Belvedere - tiksliau atvedė mus iki forto, kad galėtume prifotografuoti nuostabių panoraminių vaizdų saulei besileidžiant. Tad nesivarginant su žodžiais, štai vaizdai:

In the afternoon the association for international students was organising a free tour to Fort Belvedere. Actually just showing us the way to it so that we could enjoy the best panoramic view and take loads of pictures in the sunset. So without bothering with words, here are the pictures:

Having appreciated the view and even slightly chilled we made our way to the dinner at our new friend's place. The dinner went amazingly cheerfully and cosily - we chatted and laughed, I felt like I found my place and my people, I couldn't stop smiling. At midnight we went to the square to see the lanterns. Despite a couple of incidents (health and safety is no more than a myth here...) and people strangely looking at us because we were dancing and shouting to the songs by Queen louder than the DJ, the event went wonderfully. I still don't know what it was for and the pictures honestly do not do justice to the real view, but it was a perfect end to a perfect weekend. I am still sitting here smiling to myself thinking how lucky I am to always meet the most wonderful people wherever I go.

Oh yeah, that wasn't quite the end of the weekend - I also tried to catch the red moon at 4:30am. However, I looked through the window and the moon most probably was on the other side of the house, so I just fell back into bed and my sweet sweetest dreams.

Sudie, Birmingemai! | Goodbye Birmingham!

Tad be didelių sentimentų - truputukas šventės aprašymo kitoje pastraipoje, o sveikinimus priimu tiek žodžiu, tiek raštu, hehe!

The time has come for the banal overly sentimental post - four years have passed, now I'm a graduate with a masters in an engineering degree and this student-y stage of my life is officially closed. I feel like I should be writing on a tear-drenched sheet about how this was the most amazing part of my life, how much more mature I've become, how it won't ever be as good as it was just now and how much I hate the idea of it ending; but I simply don't feel that way. This period of my life truly has been the best one yet - so many adventures, so many friends and knowledge, so many memories, thus naturally I am much different to myself at the point of departing to this island, but also I am eager and positive about the next step awaiting me - new people and even more knowledge and fun memories. Onwards to the world, let's say! I wanted to do a mini photo gallery "Down the memory lane" but simply too much has happened, thus it's not feasible to put that all in one post. So without an overflow of sentiments - a short recap of the celebration below, and I accept your greetings and best wishes both in written and in person hahaha!

Simbliškiausias būdas įamžinti mano studentavimo metus - su savo fainuole pirmą ir paskutinę savaitę universitete :) | The most symbolic portray of my time at the University - with my bestie on the first and the last weeks here :)

During the graduation ceremony I was missing so many of my darlings - it would have been my dream to have all of my beloved ones with me! But accompanied by my loveliest mom (or sister according to everyone else) and two of my very best friends I made my way to the university to collect that extraordinary piece of paper. Even though we managed to get confused when collecting the tickets and the gown we ended up having enough time for a mini photo shoot. The actual ceremony was gorgeous - held in the most picturesque hall of the University with organ music and a choir, beautifully colorful gowns of lecturers and professors, all of the guests wearing their fanciest cloths and brightest smiles filled with pride. I was one of the first ones to be called on stage; my surname was pronounced funnily but almost correctly and I managed to step on the stage without falling over. After shaking the hand of an important gentleman I made my way down the aisle in-between the rows of guests to collect my certificate from a desk somewhere round the corner. After the official part we gathered in my department for snacks, joint picture of all of my course, and awards. I was awarded for making a notable achievement during my time in the department and contributing to the general life of the department! The saddest part of the day was all the goodbyes; although I do strongly believe that it's not the last time I meet the ones I care about. In conclusion, even though all seems to be over, I don't feel any end being here.

Metų galo džiaugsmai ir nostalgija | End of the year joys and nostalgia

Mokslo metų pabaiga man kasmet kelia baisingai sujauktus jausmus.

The end of the academic year always brings very mixed feelings for me. This is the period when I get tangled in the stress about exams, constant smile for the nicer weather and sunshine, joy about the overly free schedule which allows to meet up with my precious ones and gives more chances to travel, the fear for the changes and the unknown, and the sadness which comes with every good-bye. Every year the proportions of this mixture change, but always kick me off my emotional balance.

Kabantis tiltas Bristolyje ♥ | Suspension bridge in Bristol ♥

First of all, this year I barely have any stress for the exams since I've only got one of those, and even that one doesn't seem too wicked, thus, despite the oh-not-so-great weather I am glowing from all the opportunities to travel and spend time with the ones I care for. Out of such little travels I'd love to mention (or brag about if you wish) about my visit to my precious Victoria in Bristol where we spent a wonderful weekend full of dancing, bridge- and town-seeing and joyous walks (a pic above), and fairy-tale-like three days in Munich, Germany, where my darling cousin is on Erasmus programme. Munich left an extraordinary impression on me, therefore even though I'm planning on making a separate post on it in my travel blog, I simply cannot avoid mentioning that that city is ideal and I can't stop dreaming about living there one day! People are chilled - sitting in cafes and parks and sipping on their beer, are swimming (or surfing!) in the river or play football; in a rotunda in the middle of the gardens people simply gather to dance salsa or Lindy Hop, live music is playing on almost every corner, and oh the beauty and history of the old town! And the food, have I mentioned how perfect the food is there? I fell in love with Munich completely and am already planning how to spend a cheeky year or more over there! The details of such sneaky planned will be announced as soon as I come up with them, and until then enjoy a couple of pictures!

Žmonės sau banglininkauja upėj! People are casually surfing on a river!

The fun, of course, is not ending there but only beginning since I've got plenty travel and party planned, but I'll leave this for the next post. Now I'd like to complain about something that turns this seemingly ideal period slightly sour and keeps stinging my heart oh so painfully. Every single year at this time I've got to say good-bye to someone. Experience says that if the friends are real, you won't loose the connection to them and you won't feel the distance at all, but still - every farewell takes a little piece of the heart away. Especially this year, when everyone is leaving to all around the world, and not just for one year as it has previously happened, and I managed to get attached to people who aren't staying on this continent anymore. I was able to compress Europe for myself, so, for example, jumping off to Oslo for a weekend is not a big deal anymore, but California, Mauritius or Australia still seems the whole world away. On one hand - it's most definitely still not the end of it, I'll visit, we'll meet up, we'll chat our hearts off, I'm not giving up so easily! On another hand, I'm extremely happy that, even if so shortly, that our paths in life have crossed, so, even if life turns all my plans around and we don't get to see each other again, I'm grateful I got the pleasure and honour of meeting everyone I have. But life is life - some come some go, everyday like a river is running without a break and all there's left is to enjoy.

Nerandu tinkamesnės nuotraukos - myliu visus be galo! ♥ | Can't find a more suited photo - I love you all endlessly! ♥

Yet another melancholic shade of my thoughts touches on the fact that up to now I've been living with 3-5 other people, the majority of who became like family to me. So realising that all this is coming to an end, that upon coming back home these people won't be there to listen to me blabbering on about the idiotic situations of the day or crying my heart out about the unfairness of the world, or to watch a TV show together over the home-made dinner, or any other of those millions of little things that I have taken for granted - I can't believe that this era is coming to an end! Although, once again - one era finishes, another starts, thus all there's left is to live in the present and the future will find its way to knock on the door with its joys and concerns. Whichever way it goes, my friendship is granted with a warranty for life - I'm not letting any of you go, love you!

Random thoughts

I've been told off for not writing the blog anymore. So, without any promise to ever post again but the hope that I will, here's a compilation of completely random thoughts. Some more finished than others, some less mature than others, some heavily influenced by others, but all from somewhere within me. No particular order, and obviously not a comprehensive list, but here - let the chaos from my world slowly seep into yours.

Body is young for so short and old for so long. Good thing we can choose the ratio for mind and spirit ourselves.

Childishness is gold, sarcasm is silver.

One comes to this world alone, one leaves this world alone, and everything in-between is just an illusion.

What to follow - logical possibility or irrational hope?

Accepting limits removes them.
If you accept the fact that you and your actions are limited, you unleash.

It's not great expecting a lot - you will find yourself disappointed. Neither it is good to have no expectations at all - what's the point of doing anything then? And I think I finally am getting the hang of how to balance in between.

It's funny how much it hurts when you get taken away something you didn't even know you had or wanted.

Worst feeling so far? Being so annoyed and disgusted by a person that you feel physically sick, but being unable to run away because it's you.

It's not that I don't have a dark side. It's only that your presence is a torch that shifts the shadows outside of your sight.
But why do they come back much thicker and darker when you go away? Oh wait, science explains that too.

It's both easier and harder to have someone care deeply about you. It's worth it anyway.

The universal antidote to the unknown, to being bored or overwhelmed and needing a hideaway place, to almost everything, is a book. However valuable your experience is, it's never enough to answer the questions that are killing you inside, so why not sneak a peek at what the wisest individuals on Earth have already thought of. In other words, a book is a free real-life cheat code!

Can one fake it until he/she makes it? Is it possible to become someone better/different, gain (or discover) some qualities you were pretty sure you did not possess?
Where's the borderline between discovering what's deeply hidden inside you and changing/abandoning your true self? And is the latter always detrimental?

Is it OK to know the right way and not take it?

Neįsipareigojus ir tuo patenkinta | Single and proud

Haven't been writing for ages! And what could be an easier way to start again than to babble a bit about the relationships of heart and brain, haha.

I am single and you will have to be damn awesome to change that.
Whenever I read something of that sorts I thought - yeah right! As if there are people who don't dream of being in relationship. They're just saying that 'cause they can't find anyone, etc etc. Massive exaggeration anyway.

Venecija - meilės ir romantikos miestas | Venice - the city of love and romance

This new idea has been round in my head for a while now but only recently have I fully appreciated how true it is. And the idea is that I am amazing - or aim and work to be so - and I have so many goals, ambitions, dreams and plans on how I want to be and what I want to do that I wouldn't get bored for the rest of my life. Thus if anyone worthy and fun is gonna tag along - great! And if not - oh well, but I definitely don't feel the need to be in a relationship (which first of all means the dreaded compromise to me) just for the sake of being in one. I don't know where this confidence is coming from but: I'm not one wing that needs another wing to fly - I'm a whole bird with a potential to make up a pair, if lucky.

Meilės tiltas | The bridge of love - Pont de l'Archevêché, Paris

All in all, I'm keeping my eyes, hands and heart open for any upcoming opportunity to keep growing with someone, in a team rather than individually, but I'm closing the active search of someone - anyone- just so I wouldn't stay single as I'd much rather put that time and effort into making myself even more awesome (galleries and books - here I come!). Single is not lonely, and I'm actually enjoying it!

Kakavinė improvizacija

Šiandieną mane pavaišino pietumis, tad teko atsidėkojant pagaminti desertą. Kadangi man tinginukei parduotuvė per toli, teko galinti iš to, ką turėjau. Khem, turėjom.

Susiradau patį paprasčiausią kakavinio pyrago receptą, ir iš karto užkaičiau orkaitę, nes nebuvo laiko laukti. Receptas dar ir su bananais, nes vienas nesuvalgytas jau senai virtuvėj gulėjo, bet įpusėjus gamybos procesą supratau, kad receptas ne visai pabaigtas - be to, kad neparašyta kiek margarino reikia, trūko ir kakavos. Pagal mano logiką kakavos skonio pyrago sudėtyje kakava turėtų egzistuot, tad teko pakurti pačiai.

Kiekių nematavau, bet maždaug, labai maždaug, būtų:
  • 100g cukraus
  • 300g miltų
  • 100ml pieno
  • 1 kiaušinis
  • 50g (?) ištirpdyto sviesto     - aš nebeturėjau, tad įpyliau aliejaus, gal kokie trys šaukštai ten būt buvę
  • šaukštelis kepimo miltelių
  • 3 šaukštai kakavos
  • 1-2 bananai     - kuo daugiau, tuo skaniau, nes visgi šiek tiek sausokas pats pyragas
Viską išskyrus bananą sumaišyt (man siaubingai per tiršta masė išėjo - ko gero padauginau miltų, tad pyliau dar pieno) iki vientisos masės ir pusę to supilti į skardą. Tuomet išdėlioti sluoksnį banano griežinėlių ir užilti likusią dalį tešlos. Kepti iki 180°C įkaitintoje orkaitėję apie 40min.

Papuošimui naudoti kaimynų grietinėlę, chi chi. Skanaus!

Murakami stebuklai

Aš ne kritikė, recenzijų nerašau, tiesiog mielai pašneku apie patikusias knygas

Kalėdų laikotarpiu Lietuvėlėj bebūdama perskaičiau Haruki Murakami knygą "Negailestinga stebuklų šalis ir pasaulio galas".

Tai buvo mano pirmas susidūrimas su Murakamiu. Skaitėsi be galo lengvai ir maloniai, spalvingai.

  • Buvo be galo be krašto daug nuorodų į kitus meno kūrinius - knygas, filmus, paveikslus.
Smagaus skaitymo, jei kartais sudomino, o jei kas skaitę, mielai paplepėčiau smulkiau - gal man paaiškinumėt šį bei tą!

Iš Prezidentės į Sekretorę | From President to Secretary

Today we had the Annual General Meeting at my beloved and mostly precious Engineers Without Borders society, so with great nostalgia and relief I said bye to my role as President. The year has been fun and eventful, I learned more than I expected and grew as a person, thus I would never regret my decision to run for the president position, but neither would I want to do it again. One of the things that I have learned about myself (or rather proved to be right) is that it's not my thing to stand in front of a bunch of people and talk to them. Nor is it to represent the society talking to lecturers. And it definitely didn't do any good to my health being sick worried about all the unfulfilled plans or last minute changes. Therefore I decided to live peacefully and get rid of the unnecessary responsibility - it's much easier to do more when you don't have to, rather than not do enough when you have to do loads, and disappoint others. Thus this year I ran for Secretary, and I got elected! I'm shamelessly happy because I really wanted to - I'm at my best when I'm behind the screen filling in forms or writing emails, when I don't need to communicate face to face. Happy as a clam and can't wait for further adventures!

Vasario 14-oji | February 14th

Pati geriausia valentino diena mano gyvenime! Sužinojau, kad mano jausmai, kuriuos jau virš metų laikau savy nėra be atsako - gali įsivaizduot kokia aš laiminga! Be to, su draugais iš kurso praėjome į antrą energetikos konkurso etapą, tad šie metai visiškai skirti inžinerijai!

I had the best Valentine's Day in my life! I found out that the feelings I've been having for over a year are mutual, can you imagine my happiness? I got confirmed for yet another summer placement with Arup - my dream engineering company that I fell in LOVE with even before I started my placement last summer. Words cannot describe how excited I am - I literally ran around the house jumping and shouting, and bragging to everyone! On top of that, me and my friends got through to another round of an engineering competition, so it's pretty much "I'm not in a relationship, I'm in Engineering" year haha!

Rožytė (^u^)  Kairėje mano nepribaigtas piešinukas, o dešinėje trys mano mylimi Ghibli vyrukai |
Rose (^u^) On the left is my unfinished sketch and on the right three my beloved Ghibli protagonists
Teko atsisakyti, nes mes šventėm bulgarų nacionalinę vyno dieną, o to praleisti negaliu, chi chi. Kitą pasiūlymą gavau pietums: "į centrą važiuosi? žinai, galėtume kartu, papietautume dviese, juk aš be poros, tu irgi, o valentino diena" chi chi cha cha. ♥

And if back to boys, I got some action there too, even if it was just for fun. It's sweet how friends try to make you feel better if you're single on Valentine's! Firstly I got an offer for a Skype date in the evening: dinner, wine, talking - everything's perfect. I had to decline though as my whole flat were celebrating Bulgarian national wine day and I couldn't miss that, haha! Another offer came for lunchtime: "going to the city centre? maybe we could go together, grab some lunch. You know, I'm single, you're single, and it's Valentine's afterall" hahaha. And at the end of the day I received a lovely rose ^ All in all, conclusion is one - February 14th 2014 approved! ♥

Pokaitukų pavojus | The hazard of naps

I just had my most ridiculous submission. Those who know me well are aware I tend to submit things very last minute, but no, not this time -  I had my whole submission ready by 10am. Unfortunately, they only take it from 1pm to 3:45pm and I'm not gonna wait in Uni for that long, so, obviously, I went home. And, obviously, took a nap. And, obviously, overslept. Despite the alarm clock I jumped out of my bed at 3:36 (I live a 20 minute walk away from Uni), not mentioning all the words that were in my head and mouth ran down the stairs and cycled (oh the glorious bike!) to Uni. Gladly, it's mainly downhill, so without locking my bike I entered the room for submission at 3:46 or so, depending on the clock you look at. I still had to fill in a form, and I didn't know the lecturer's name, but I believe the fair lady signed my work as if I turned it in on time! From now on naps only after submissions!!!

Never take great friend for granted

Great friends are family, and family is the single most important thing in life.

The slight difference between friends and family, however, is that your family will stay with you no matter what, while even greatest friends go if you don't appreciate them.

It's very easy to take great friend for granted - he's there, he's always there, he's always going to be there. No. This false assumption which you don't even realise you're making allows you to get self-involved. You have problems, you have duties, you have so many things to do and think about all day all night people depend on you you can't slack on studies too but you have to do this and that and you have to go go go...

Somewhere in your subconsciousness you know your friends do too, and they usually even bigger problems and more things going on, and it's not that you don't care but it's just so many things whirling around you that you simply don't stop for the moment to actually think about it and ask them how they're doing. You might not even realise that you know they are going through a difficult, or a very difficult time. This filter, this block creates such insensitivity that you don't pick up any signals they might send and your friends might reasonably assume you don't care about them. Nobody wants that to happen because losing a friend tears your heart apart, almost literally, therefore I just have to write this small yet really important reminder to my future self.

Never take great friend for granted.

Never take anyone for granted. Never let everyday worries shadow the care you actually feel towards the people who surround you. Always show you care. Do those little lovely things you used to do - a postcard, a cupcake or a lovely note for no reason. Well, for a reason - you just can't express how happy you are you have him/her in your life!

Always do the casual and highly under-appreciated "How are you, is everything fine? How's your _____?" because you do know what is going on in your friends' lives. If you don't it's high time you found out. Always ask and always listen. Don't cave in. Always reach out, always care. Friends are the best you can get from this life, appreciate them and make sure you show it.

On a funnier note, while making this collage I realised that the amount I care about a person is not always directly proportional to the number of pictures we have together. Love you guys, love you all, we need a(nother) photoshoot!

Empathy - the ability to understand and share the feelings of another.

Empathy is a useless ability that only overcomplicates life.

Empathy makes you feel that you there is a problem and you should be doing something but you don't know what.

Empathy doesn't let you be mad at someone, because you know why they are/speak/act that way.

Empathy leaves you crying in your room over a problem that isn't even yours.

Empathy doesn't let you solve a problem because you know how bad it will make someone feel.

Empathy lets your guilt eat you up because it eliminates the significance of your excuses by comparing it to the problems of others.

Empathy doesn't let you be a bad person. Even when sometimes it would be just so much easier to do so.

Calm down and stay positive

I feel like a complete failure at the moment - I have submitted my worst coursework ever (not a big deal, just 100% of the module), I can't stop remembering every mistake I made in the interview for my dream summer placement and how much better I could have answered the questions, I am a terrible mentor for the first year student group - they don't attend meetings, wrote the work on the night of submission and got the lowest mark, I keep making a fool of myself in every social situation possible, and last but not the least I am a horrible horrible friend (maybe friendship just isn't a thing for me?). All I want is to just turn off all the lights, cuddle up and spend a day or two in my cocoon doing nothing.

I actually went for it - locked the door, cuddled up, closed my eyes. But after no more ten minutes I couldn't stay in because of all the thoughts spinning around in my head like vultures over my half-dead body. I wanted to shout and scream, kick and punch the wall, hoping it will get them out of my head. I wanted to leave, run away as far as I can hoping the thoughts will stay and I won't have to come back. So I ran away to the world of tv shows, movies and books. I knew human interaction would only make it worse - I'd get either worn out by pretending to be all happy and social or more angry at myself for not putting the mask on and having to answer if I'm OK and bringing others' mood down. Happens too often to make the same mistake again, especially when the next step is thinking they got annoyed by me and can't stand my presence anymore.

Chaos in the head leaves the body hanging in space without much meaning.
As hopefully you can tell, the description of experience is based on more than one occasion, and the logical conclusion is that I have overcome it before. How? I don't remember. What I do remember, however, is that when I talked with people who I thought were insanely annoyed or angry at me, they all said that they were not. Not at all. Some only said they were worried about me seeing that I'm not looking too well but didn't know how to approach. Then it struck me - I wasn't seeing the reality clearly. I was looking at everything around me through the prism of low self-esteem and bad mood, caused, most probably, by stress.

Everything seems much darker, much worse than it actually is, especially the perception of myself - thoughts, appearance, actions, skills. Everything, including even those small, normally meaningless details as phrasing of words or posture starts to annoy, - how can you have lived in this world for more than 20 years and still not know how to behave in a normal social situation?! And this enhanced self-criticism paints the reactions from others in much darker shade than they really were, creating even more doubt and drawing into this fast swirl towards the drain hole.

So the thing is that however difficult it is, whenever I'm feeling blue or awkward I have to always step back and look at the situation from a third person's view, because my own senses cannot always be trusted.

Clear reflection can only be seen when the mind is calm.
I wish I could say similar things about coursework, but it depends on a couple more things besides my perception, thus, having reminded myself that nothing ever is as bad as it looks, I have to go and do some studying, so there is one less cause for this tiny nightmare to begin again.
